Zephorene C. Ventres

Zephorene C. Ventres, 82, of Berlin, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003 at Southington Care Center. Born in Berlin, she was the daughter of the late Orville and Zephorene Carter Ventres. She was a life long Berlin resident and was employed as a nurse at the Newington Veterans Hospital and later at the Newington Children's Hospital. She was a member of New Britain General Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Associates and the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. She was also a member of the Berlin Congregational Church, the Women's Federation at the church and was a former choir member. Zephorene enjoyed many hobbies and handicrafts, as well as music, including violin, harp and singing. Surviving are a niece, Irene Battistini and her husband William of Middletown; three nephews, Joseph Brown and his family of Bethlehem CT, Mark Mandl and his family of Westminster, MD, and John Mandl and his wife of Fairfield, OH; a dear friend, Edith Graulich of Southington; five grandnieces; a grandnephew; and many cousins. She was predeceased by her twin sister, Celia Ventres Brown, another sister Bertha Ventres Mandl, and by her nephew, David Mandl. She was often visited by her close friends, Dolores and Joe Lynch; Mary Rose and Helen Rudek; George, Margaret and Zephorene Stickney, and Rev. Arthur Dupont. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain. Burial will be held privately at Maple Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
