Winifred Joyce Tracano, 87, of Bristol, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009 at the Sub Acute Center in Bristol. She was the widow of Nicholas Tracano. Born in Derby, she was the daughter of the late John and Katherine Doll Heffernan. Winifred was a New Britain resident for over 50 years before moving to Bristol. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in New Britain and formerly served as a secretary at RSVP in Bristol. Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Therrien and her husband James of Bristol, Kathryn Smestad and her husband Stephen of Virginia; a son, John Tracano and his wife Carolyn of Berlin; a sister, Joan Soucy also of Bristol; five grandchildren, Nicholas Therrien, Christopher Therrien, Erick Smestad, Harold Smestad and Kara Smestad; her great-grandchildren, Cody and Ericka Smestad, Natalie and Benjamin Therrien, Christopher and Caleigh Collier; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Deborah Hopkins Collier, by a grandson, David Anthony Tracano, and by two brothers, Stuart Heffernan, and Leo Heffernan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Friends may call at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So.
