William F. Klein

William F. Klein passed away on Monday, July 7, 2008. Born in Montclair, NJ, he was the son of the late William and Lillian Bosley Klein. He lived in Berlin most of his adult life. He was a graduate of the Loomis School and the University of Connecticut, graduating with a degree in Marketing. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. During WWII, he proudly served his country as a sergeant in the Army and was recalled for duty as a lieutenant in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was very proud that all three of his children followed his footsteps and served in the military. During his lifetime he was a radio announcer for WHAY in New Britain. In the 1950's, he was co-owner of three Flying Dutchmen Service stations. He began a career in sales starting with W.R. Grace Vestal Laboratories. He entered the real estate field, obtaining first his realtors license before gaining his broker credentials and opening W.F. Klein Realty. In 1993, his career culminated in being named "Realtor of the Year" for the greater New Britain Association of Realtors. Retiring on top, he then took a passion for antiques and along with his wife created Nostalgia Unlimited, specializing in Royal commemorative and memorabilia. For many years he was a mainstay at major antique shows along the east coast. During his life he was also elected as a Police Commissioner for the town of Berlin. He was an enthusiastic and active member of the Berlin Lions Club and was presented with the prestigious "Melvin Jones Fellow" Award for dedicated humanitarian services from Lions Club International Foundation. He was also a member of Friendship Lodge #33 A.F. & A.M., in Southington and the American Legion in Berlin. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pat; a son, Matthew of Lakewood, OH; a daughter, Hope of Berlin, a son, Michael and his wife Leeann of Richmond, VA; his sister, Ellen Hubbard of Hollywood, FL; eight grandchildren, a great grandchild and a niece and a nephew. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Paul's Church, Kensington at 11:00 AM on July 10th. Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill's memory may be made to the Berlin Lions Club, P.O. Box 23, Kensington, CT 06037 or to St. Paul's Church, 485 Alling St., Kensington, CT 06037.
