William H. Dornfried Sr., 88, of Kensington and Old Saybrook, husband of Frances (Dower) Dornfried, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 29, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New Britain, Bill was the son of the late Joseph Dornfried and the late Pauline (Meyer) Dornfried and a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. He lived his whole life in Kensington and spent summer weekends at Cornfield Point in Old Saybrook. Bill was a graduate of Berlin High School and the University of Connecticut. He owned Clover Hill Dairy and was also employed as a housing inspector in New Britain and a building official in the towns of Westbrook, Plainville and Berlin. Bill’s cherished grandchildren, as well as gardening and woodworking, brought tremendous joy to his life.
Bill was a loving husband, dedicated father and devoted grandfather. In addition to his wife Frances, he is survived by two children, Marilyn Osowiski and her husband, David, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; William H. Dornfried, Jr. and his wife, Maura Stepeck, of Kensington; three grandchildren, Erica Osowiski, Siobhan Dornfried and Terrence Dornfried; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Margaret Dornfried; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Ama Donnelly; many thoughtful nieces and nephews; and his compassionate caregiver, Sephlyn Allen. Bill was predeceased by his six brothers, his sister, and their spouses; Joseph, Helen and Lydia Dornfried, Carl and Ruth Dornfried, Frank and Ruth Dornfried, Mary and Joseph Dornfeld, John and Frances Dornfried, and Alfred and Virginia Dornfried; and a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Dower, all of whom he loved dearly.
