Wesley L. Schneider

Wesley Schneider died on December 28, at UF Health Shands Hospital from complications of COVID 19.

Born in New Britain, Connecticut, Wes was a lifelong Lutheran, attending First Lutheran Church  in New Britain, CT, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Harwich, MA and Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Gainesville, FL.  It was at First Lutheran, he attended Sunday School, Luther League and Young Couples Club with Muriel, the love of his life.  They were married for 64 years; she died in 2014.

He is survived by his daughter Lynn Newman and her husband Bob; by his son Scott Schneider and his wife Marina, their children Heather Ubbens (Andrew) and Colby Schneider (Meg).  Other survivors include his two great grandchildren Daegan Ubbens and Everett Ubbens.

He adored travel and exploration of places near and far.  In his later years, he made treasured memories with Scott on several cruises.  One trip they greatly enjoyed was to Washington DC, on Veterans Day, on Honor Flight, a special recognition of veterans of WW II. Wes served in the US Army, in Korea, January 1945 – April 1946.  He was also a Mason.

Friends described him as a gentle and kind man, always hospitable, generous, and eager for conversation.   He was always grateful for what he had and cherished time spent with his family.  He loved camping, road trips, and searching for great barbeque.

The family expresses their thanks to those who cared for and showed great compassion to Wes: Dr. Jeff Budd, staff and leadership at Windsor Assisted Living of Gainesville, Meredith Goodrich DDS, Terie Barr ARNP and Della Tuten ARNP.
