Virginia Thompson Lawrence, 80, of Cromwell, beloved wife of Walter Lawrence, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003. Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Aida Pieffier Thompson. She was a graduate of the New Britain General Hospital School of Nursing and was formerly employed as a Registered Nurse in the Delivery Room at New Britain General Hospital. Virginia was a former New Britain resident and Port St. Lucie FL resident, living her summers at Camp Spofford, NH where she volunteered as the camp nurse for many years. She was a member of the Wethersfield Evangelical Free Church, and had served as a Youth Worker, Sunday School Teacher, and Deaconess at church. She was also a member of the Nurses Association in Nettles Island, FL. In addition to her husband Walter, she is survived by a son, James Walter Lawrence of East Hampton; four daughters and their spouses, Kathleen Johnson of New Jersey, Janis and John Romegialli of Higganum, Jerrlyn and Douglas Welch of Acton, Ma, and Jill E. Hasty, a missionary based in Dallas TX and her husband Randy; twelve grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Kathleen Sirko. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 am at the Wethersfield Evangelical Free Church. Burial will be in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Wethersfield Evangelical Free Church, 511 Maple St., Wethersfield, Hospice of Central CT, 40 East St., Plainville, ALS Association of Connecticut, Plainville, or to Camp Spofford, Spofford, NH. Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, New Britain, is in charge of arrangements.
