Virgilio Saavedra-Santos, 91, of East Berlin, passed away peacefully on Good Friday, April 6, 2012 surrounded by his loving family, at Ledgecrest Healthcare Center in Kensington. Born in San German, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Joaquin Saavedra and Rosa Santos. He spent most of his life in Puerto Rico, moving to Berlin one year ago. He was formerly self- employed as a carpenter and was a member of St. Mary Church in New Britain. Virgilio was an outgoing, cheerful person with a great sense of humor. He loved to dance, enjoyed playing dominos and shooting pool. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Surviving are his children, Aurora, Elsa, Elba, Miriam, Awilda, and Edgardo; four sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law; a sister Eva; eighteen grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Wilson, and by many brothers and sisters. The family would like to thank Ledgecrest Healthcare Center, and their "Nenas" and staff, for their loving care. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 6-8 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main St., New Britain. Funeral services will be held in San German, Puerto Rico. Burial will be in Cementerio Trugillo Municipio de San German. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Food Pantry, 544 Main St., New Britain, CT 06051.
