Vincent E. Cahill, 84, of Suffield, formerly of Newington, husband of Myrtle "Buzz" Kraus Cahill, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007 at the Suffield House. Born on May 15, 1923 in Lawrence, MA, he was the son of the Colonel and Mrs. Thomas H. Cahill. Vincent enlisted in the US Army on May 18, 1942 and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in 1943. He served for 24 years serving in both World War II and the Korean War, retiring June 30, 1966. During his years of service, he was awarded the Bronze Star and three Battle Stars. Vincent was formerly employed as a supervisor at the Conn. State Labor Department. and also served as an auxiliary policeman for seven years in Newington. He served on the US Army Conn. State Retirement Counsel from 1982 to 1995. He was a member and Past Commander of Disabled American Veterans Post 48 and later transferred his membership to Post 52. He was a former member and past counsel member of Elm Hill AARP in Newington. He was a member of Post 1, Korean War Veterans Association and recently signed up to support the Korean War Memorial being constructed in Washington DC. He was a member of the Board of the Kent Memorial Library in Suffield. Vincent loved to travel, and visited all 50 states as well as many other parts of the World. He was an avid Red Sox Baseball fan. In addition to his wife, Myrtle "Buzz" Cahill, he is survived by a son Michael Cahill and his wife Sandra Beaulieu Cahill of Suffield; a grandson, Daniel Patrick Cahill; a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Alan and Gena Cahill of Naples, FL; a sister Alice Drown of Brewster, MA; a sister-in-law, Arlene Basile of New Britain; a brother-in-law, John Kraus of Lady Lake, FL and New Britain; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, Patrick Cahill and Kevin Cahill. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main St., New Britain. Burial, with military honors, will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 6-8 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to West Suffield Congregational Church, Kent Memorial Library in Suffield, or to Americare.
