Velma H. Mattia, 93, of Kensington, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Middlesex Hospital. She was the widow of Henry Mattia. Born in Maine, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Daisy Hodgdon. She was a former Hazardville and Niantic resident before moving to Kensington 20 years ago. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Anna S. Mattia; a niece Carole Mattia-Slater and her husband Robert Mattia-Slater; five nephews, Kenneth Mattia, his son Jeffrey and his wife Karrie, and their children, Josh, Nicholas, and Zackery, his son Kevin and his fiancée Michele; other nephews, Al Mattia and his wife Debbie, and their daughter Alexis, Richard Cottone, Gary Cottone, and Dennis Cottone; and a second cousin, Velma Lawton. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
