Thomas J. Stregowski, 54, of Berlin, passed away unexpectedly into God's loving hands on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002. He was born in New Britain, he was the son of the late Stanley and Catherine Holyst Stregowski and lived in Berlin most of his life. Tom is survived by his loving wife, Elva Gordona Stregowski and his son, Christopher J. Stregowski and his fiancee, Stacy Blow. In addition, he is survived by a devoted sister, Jane Raczek and her husband Richard of Burlington; a brother, Richard J. Stregowski and his wife Deborah of Atlanta, GA; a nephew and two nieces, Robb Stregowski, Jennifer and Sharon Stregowski, all of Atlanta, GA; his aunt, Anne Rose Lewandoski; and by many cousins and their extended families. Mr. Stregowski was a 1971 graduate of UCONN with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He worked as an engineer in many companies in the area and most recently served as a substitute teacher in the Berlin School System as well as at area vocational education schools. Tom was a loving husband and father who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, like a beautiful sunset or a walk on the beach. Most of all he loved volunteering. He was a member and past president of the Berlin Lions Club and was currently serving as acting secretary. He was the superintendent of the photography exhibit at the Berlin Lions Fair and formerly served as chairman of the Berlin Lions Memorial Pool. He was the chairman of the Economic Development Commission for the Town of Berlin and enjoyed coaching for the Berlin Little League Baseball. He was a strong supporter of the Berlin- Kensington YMCA, especially the Partner-Member Campaign Drive. An active parishioner at St. Paul's Church, he served as a greeter and as a member of their Christmas in April team. He was a member of the Italian Fraternal Society, the Tennessee Squires, and an avid UCONN sports fan. He will be greatly missed by his family and by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St. New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Paul's Church. Burial will be in Maple Cemetery. Calling hours are today from 4-8 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home.
