Ted Olson, beloved husband of Jean Olson, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2023 in Plantation, Fl. at the age of 93.
He was born in New Britain, CT on August 19, to Oscar and Gunhild Olson. He graduated from Plainville High School in 1947 and North Park Jr. College in 1949. He served in the U. S. Army in the Signal Corp during the Korean War.
Ted and Jean married on May 12, 1956, and made their home in Plainville where they raised their 3 children and lived for 55 years before moving to Covenant Village of Cromwell in 2001 and then to Covenant Living of Florida in Plantation, FL in 2015.
After his time in the Army Ted returned to Plainville and went in business with his farther at Oscar Olson & Son Construction. Together they built and remodeled many homes and businesses.
Ted was an active member of Bethany Covenant Church, where he served in a variety of positions including, youth counselor, deacon, trustee and usher. After retirement he played golf on Wednesday mornings with the Bethany Bums. Ted and Jean also enjoyed spending their time camping at Pilgrim Pines where he volunteered in the construction of the chapel. He traveled on three Mission trips with Bethany, once to Alaska Christian College and then to Oaxaca, Mexico.
Ted will be remembered for his warm smile and quiet manner. He was a caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife Jean of nearly 67 years; his 3 children, Stephen (Carol), Susan O’Donnell and Erica (Paul) Porche. His grandchildren, Trevor (Natalie) Olson, Cassandra Olson, Nathaniel (Bryanne) Olson, Kayla O’Donnell, Ryan O’Donnell, and Zoe Porche, his great-grandchildren, Aiden Olson, Addie Olson, Maddie Olson, Jocelynn Olson and Westley Olson. He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Gunhild Olson, his sister Jeanne Goff-Klatt, son-in-law Kevin P. O’Donnell and grandson Jonathan Olson.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 14th at 11:00 AM at Bethany Covenant Church, Berlin, CT. Burial will follow in the Bethany Memorial Garden. Memorial donations may be made to Bethany Covenant Church or Pilgrim Pines Conference Center in Swanzey, NH.
