Susan S. Brummett

Susan S. Brummett, 78, of Niantic, formerly of Newington, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 21, 2019.

Born in New Britain on January 12, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Boris and Martha (Olmstead) Srogi.  At 3 years old, Susan attended the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus in Hartford with her parents and Aunt Olga. She and her family were one of the few who survived the infamous circus fire by climbing out of the top of the tent to safety.  Susan attended local schools in New Britain prior to meeting her husband and moving to Newington to start her family. She was a devout member and volunteer of multiple churches she attended over the years. She belonged to the United Church of Christ, New Britain, where she sang in the choir and played the carillon prior to obtaining a job at the United Church of Christ in Wethersfield as the church secretary.  She moved on to become the church secretary of the Flagg Road United Church of Christ in West Hartford, where she worked until 2006.  Susan was a member of both the New Britain Chorale and Greater Middletown Chorale as well as the Newington Square Dance Club. She loved to garden and she was an awesome cook.  Susan was also a very proud member of Mensa.

Susan is survived by her loving husband Robert W. Brummett of Niantic; her son Gary L. Brummett and his wife Maureen of Southington; her daughter Pamela Brummett Roberts and her partner Mark Mitsock of Milford, MA; two grandchildren Thomas J. Brummett and wife Vika of Colorado Springs, CO and Elyse C. Brummett and her fiancé Stefanie Erickson of Springfield, MA; and two great-grandchildren Lucas F. Brummett and Amelia S. Brummett, all of Colorado Springs, CO; her sister Nancy S. Giudice of Plainville and 3 nephews and their families.

Calling hours for Susan will be held at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain, on Saturday, July 27, 2019 from 1-3 PM followed by a memorial service at 3 PM.
