Stephen Mark Somosky, 78, of New Britain, former resident of Newington, Milford, Hamden, and Houston, TX passed away Thursday, May 14th with his beloved daughter and son-in-law at his side. Steve was full of life and energy. He would help others when needed and was concerned for everyone's well being up until the day he passed. He enjoyed carpentry, fishing, boating, traveling and had a very large lust for life. Steve was strongly independent, determined and honest. He will truly be missed. Born in Wallingford, CT, he was the son of the late William and Susie Somosky from Hungary. He was a US Navy Veteran, having served on the LST 1032. Steve was an expert craftsman in carpentry and his talents can be found throughout CT and Houston, TX in the many buildings he remodeled, constructed and homes that he lovingly built for his family. Steve was a member of the Carpenters & Millwrights Union of Houston, TX and the CT Carpenters Local 210. Surviving are his son Stephen and daughter in law, Melissa Somosky of Glastonbury, three grandchildren, Jake, Katie and Abby and his daughter Michele and her husband Shawn Hixson of New Britain. Steve also leaves behind his close friend Marion Sonday of Wethersfield, his sister Josephine Caruso of West Haven, his sister Helen Swan of Port Charlotte, FL, his brother Lou of Miami, FL and his sister Emma Hammersmid of Lake Placid, FL, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Susie Somosky of Hungary, his first love and wife of nearly 40 years, Yolanda, his brothers Ernie, Bill, Tex and sisters Ann Mentelos of CA and Mary Jane Charbonneau of Waterbury. There will be a Memorial Service for Steve at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 2819 Whitney Avenue in Hamden on Friday, May 29, 2009 at 4:00 PM. His final resting place will be at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven at the family's discretion. All friends and family are invited to the Memorial Service. There will be no calling hours. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice or to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
