Stephan DerMargosian, 86, of Farmington, CT died September 11, 2012. He was the husband of Susan Avedisian DerMargosian to whom he was married for 60 years. Steve was born in New Britain, CT on March 16, 1926, the son of the late Ghevont DerMargosian and Miriam Mananian DerMargosian. His birthmother, Miriam, died when he was 2 years old. His father remarried to Jouhar Simonian, daughter of Peter and Yelhsa Simonian, who in every respect became his loving, devoted mother. Steve lived in New Britain for 30 years and graduated from New Britain High School in 1943. Upon graduation, he attended the Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. As the country was engaged in World War II, he volunteered for the U.S. Navy and served on the battleship U.S.S. Iowa in the Pacific Theater. After discharge, he received his BS Degree in Industrial Engineering from Hillyer College of The University of Hartford. Steve was an active pillar of the Armenian community. He was a life member and served as deacon of the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection for approximately 70 years, chairman of the parish council, diocesan delegate and chairman of innumerable programs. He was chairman of the building committee and a founding father of the new Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection on Stanley St., New Britain, CT. He was a member of the ADL Organization. Steve was also a member of the Masonic Organization for over 56 years and was a member of the American Legion. He served as a commissioner on the Town of Farmington Sewer Authority. Steve was with the Royal Typewriter Co. for 20 years, leaving as Production Control Manager when the company closed its Hartford operations. He subsequently engaged in commercial brokerage. He is survived by his wife Susan, children; sons Stephen and his life partner Matthew Clark of Asheville, NC, Philip of Paris, France and his life partner Giovanni Fretti of Bergamo, Italy, daughter and son-in-law Brenda and David Jermakian of Wilbraham, MA, granddaughters Talene and Ani, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Henrietta and Richard Kallajian of Wethersfield, CT and nephews Michael and Greg Kallajian and their families of Wethersfield, cousins Jon Simonian of New York City and George Simonian of Suffield, CT and their families. Funeral services will be Monday, September 17, at 10:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain and at 11:00 AM at The Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection, 1910 Stanley Street, New Britain, CT. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery, Smalley St. in New Britain. Calling hours are Sunday from 6-8 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection, 1910 Stanley St., New Britain, CT 06053.
