Silvia "Banco" Simione Vento passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain on June 4, 2024 at the age of 100 years old.
She was the beloved wife of Anacleto (Nicky) Vento who passed away in December 2000. She was a resident of East Berlin for 43 years. Silvia was born in New Britain, CT on April 9, 1924. She then moved to Italy with her family as a young child, where she attended primary school. She graduated with a fashion degree from Le Suore Della Misericordia in Gaeta, Italy.
Silvia was married in Italy and returned to the United States in 1947, where she worked at Park Fashions in New Britain. She then was an associate partner for New Britain Garment Inc. for 35 years. Also, she was a member of St. Ann Church in New Britain.
She is survived by two sons, Vincenzo (Vinny) Vento, who cared for her for many years, and Dr. John A. Vento and his wife Rita; five grandchildren, Alexia, Giancarlo and his wife Joyce, Nerissa and her husband William, Fabrizio and Marcello; and five great-grandchildren, Zayne, Marla, Lyla, Maeve, and Faye.
She is also survived by one sister, Vincenza Ciampi and predeceased by three brothers, Father Ralph, Rudolph and Robert Simione and three sisters, Maria Giarnella, Luisa Vento and Carmina Zovich.
Silvia was a professional seamstress and designer starting from a young age and continued her love of sewing throughout her entire life. She even crafted a dress in her 99th year of life; which she then wore. Silvia truly enjoyed the trade and utilized both her craft and passion for sewing up until the last year of her life.
Silvia is unconditionally loved by her family. She was not a person of many words but had an ongoing presence of kindness and love. Her noble actions were ones of genuine love, warm-heartedness, peace and compassion. Silvia’s presence was marked by deep affection and an endearing, irrefutable love for her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 10:30 AM at St. Ann Church, St. Joachim Parish, 101 North St., New Britain. Please meet directly at church. Entombment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, New Britain is in charge of arrangements.
