Shirley D. Kevorkian of New Britain, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 30, 2013. She was born in New Britain on May 5, 1915 and was the beloved daughter of the late Harry and Mary Kevorkian. Shirley attended school in New Britain and Miami, FL graduating from Miami High School in 1932 with high honors. She started her career with G. Fox & Company as a buyer and retired after 32 years. She was a life-long member of St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church and started singing in the choir in her early teens. She eventually became the church organist and choir director and served with devotion for 62 years. She also served as President of the church Ladies Guild for many years. Shirley was a gracious, kind, loving and generous person and always caring for others. She had an outgoing personality and a wonderful sense of humor. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile. Shirley loved to travel, enjoyed music, opera, theater, sports, people and life in general. She will be fondly remembered for her love and dedication to her family and she cherished the time she spent with them. Shirley was respected and admired by all those who knew and loved her. She will be dearly missed. Surviving are her devoted sister, Sue Kochunas of Kensington; beloved nephews, Arthur Kevorkian of Kensington and Mark Kevorkian of Meriden; her beloved nieces, Patti Rubino of Cary, NC, Valerie Kevorkian Fuller of Pembroke Pines FL, Gina Finch of Satellite Beach, FL, Michele McBride of Davie, FL, and Stephanie Kevorkian Wilson of Miami, FL; her loving sister-in-law, Virginia Kevorkian of Pembroke Pines, FL; and many great nieces and nephews, and several great-great nephews. Shirley was predeceased by three brothers, Michael Kevorkian, Stephen Kevorkian and Arthur Kevorkian. The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at Monsignor Bojnowski Manor for their wonderful care and compassion shown to Shirley. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 3-5 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So Main St., with a prayer service at 4:00 PM conducted by Rev. Krikoris Keshishian. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Stephen's Armenian Apostolic Church, 167 Tremont St., New Britain, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
