Sebastiano Giarratana

Sebastiano "Sebby" Giarratana, 84, of New Britain, passed away on October 18, 2021. He was a loving husband for 56 years to Josephine "Pinuccia" Giarratana. Sebastiano was born in Floridia, Sicily on March 14, 1937 to the late Salvatore Giarratana and Concetta (InDomenico) Giarratana.

Sebastiano is survived by his loving son, Salvatore Giarratana, and daughter-in-law, Karleen Giarratana of Farmington. He was predeceased by his daughter, Elizabeth Giarratana. Sebastiano was also survived by his three loving grandchildren; Kara, Kayla and Sebastian Giarratana. Sebastiano is also survived by his sisters Concetta Bordanaro of Berlin, Maria Perreault of Southington, Lidia Onisto and her husband Joseph Onisto of New Britain, brother-in-law Paolo Aresco and his wife Rosetta Aresco of New Britain, sister-in-law Sebastiana Avella and her husband Antonio Avella of New Britain, sister-in-laws Theresa Aresco of New Britain, Carmela Farsakh and her husband Hisham Farsakh of California. He was predeceased by his sisters Carmela Cialfi, Lucia Ciarcia and brother-in-laws Sebastiano Bordonaro, Andrea Cialfi, Dennis Perrault, Paul Ciarcia Sr., and Angelo Aresco. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Sebastiano moved to Connecticut in 1951 and grew up in New Britain, where he resided for 70 years. He attended schools in Italy and Connecticut. In his younger years he was employed by Fafnir Bearing for 38 years. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church. His family meant the world to him. He loved spending time together with everyone and happiness radiated from his constant smile. A room full of family meant a full heart. He didn’t carry any hate in his heart, he wanted everyone to just be happy and together. He was the most blissful man. He was so grateful for all he had and never took anything for granted. He had the kindest of hearts and always put his family first before himself. Every time the family came together it usually included a delicious meal where he would ensure everyone left with a full belly. He would make sure everyone had their glass filled with wine and always toasted “cent’ anni!” He enjoyed gardening in his backyard and teaching his grandkids how to grow fresh fruits and vegetables. At the end of every summer he’s say “Did you check the tree for figs?” He loved his fig tree. He loved soccer, Italian tv and listening to Italian music. He was always happy no matter how bad things might have been. His positivity and desire for harmony is something that each of us will carry forward from him. Sebastian's sisters were very important to him as he was the only brother they had to lean on. He loved traveling and always spoke about returning to his favorite place which was home, Floridia, Sicily. We hope he has found his way back to his home to rest peacefully with his daughter and sisters. He will be very missed and forever with us.
