Sebastian "John" Silvestro, 79, of East Haddam, formerly of New Britain, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at Middlesex Hospital. Born in New Britain, he was the son of the late Paul and Pauline Cirinna Silvestro. John was in the medical corps of the US Army during the Korean conflict and earned a Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, the United Nations Service Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal with Japan Clasp and the Bronze Star Medal with "V" device. He was a salesman for American Hardware and in advertising sales for the New Britain Herald. He was also part owner of Kiddieland, a former family business at Sound View Beach in Old Lyme. John was a member of VFW Post 511. He attended St. Bridget of Kildare Church in Moodus. John is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Pat and Constance Silvestro of New Britain, Joel and Linda Silvestro of Kensington; two nephews, Pat Silvestro, his wife Cheryl and their children of New Britain and James Silvestro of Old Lyme; two nieces, Paula Silvestro of New Britain and Cerina Silvestro of New York, NY. He was predeceased by his sister Ann Silvestro. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:30 am at St. Paul Church, Kensington. Burial, with full military honors, will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday morning from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain.
