Sebastian Robert Papa

Sebastian Robert Papa, 96, of Newington, Connecticut passed away November 26, 2024,  Sebby was born on May 9, 1928, to Salvatore Papa and Carmelina Coronella in New Britain, Connecticut.

He joined the Army Branch of the United States Armed Forces and was stationed in Berlin Germany during WWII with the 298th army band. Sebby then studied trumpet at the Julius Hartt music school in Hartford. He had a long career as the City Planning Director for New Britain, CT from 1960 until his retirement.  In his retirement he continued his passion for music. He also found a new hobby and love of mowing his lawn. Sebby took great pride in this.

Sebby continued his love for music well after college. He began the Sebby Papa Orchestra, in New Britian CT. He played the trumpet and flugel horn among the large orchestra. They played at The Shell of Walnut Hill Park often, regional weddings, and were commissioned to play for Governor Thomas J. Meskill. Sebby's gift of music was enjoyed for many years by his friends and family. To this day, The Sebby Papa Orchestra is recalled lovingly by their community.

He is preceded in death by; his parents Salvatore and Carmelina Papa, sister Rose Bordonaro, brother Frank Papa, wife Lucy Sataline Papa, sons, Robert Papa and Thomas Papa, grandson Sebby Haroutunian, and great grandson Courtney Jones.

Sebby is survived by; wife Barbara Papa, sister Lucy Lorentzen, children; Barbara Cavallo, Susan Papa, and Laura Sataline, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Sebastian "Sebby" Papa will be held in New Britain, CT at the Erickson-Hansen funeral home on January 14, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Military honors will follow at the funeral home.  Calling hours will be at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Sebby will be dearly missed by his community, friends, and family.
