Salvatore Ghamo

Salvatore Ghamo, 94, beloved husband, father, uncle, and a man of immense heart, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024. Salvatore’s love for his family was boundless; in his last days, he was comforted and embraced by his loved ones, all of whom were strengthened by the abundance of his grace, his sincerity, his integrity, and his profound appreciation for life.

In 1952, Salvatore met the love of his life, Maria, in Cardinale, Italy. They went on to have four children: Isabella, Joe, Tony, and Cathy. Salvatore and Maria Ghamo’s union brought them to New Britain, Connecticut, where they thrived together for sixty-seven years of marriage, enriching the lives of everyone they cared for and everyone they met. Salvatore was an incredibly rare human being who began working at seven years old, and for the duration of his working life, he willingly sacrificed his body, mind, and soul in order to enhance the lives of others. In Italy, Salvatore owned a lumber business with his brothers. In the United States, he worked for T.M. Tools. After retirement, Salvatore worked as a security guard at Grove Hill Clinic, where he was loved and appreciated by his peers. He enjoyed tending to his garden, making wine and cheese, and above all, he found joy in sharing the fruits of his labor with his family and friends.

Salvatore was predeceased by Vincenzo, Biaggio, and Vittoria. He is survived by his brothers Giusseppe and Vittorio, and by his sister Antonietta. Salvatore’s daughter Isabella and her husband Salvatore gave him four grandchildren: Pietro, Francesco, Maria, and Andrea. His son Joe and Joe’s wife Allison gave him four grandchildren: Max, Joey, Sam, and Lana. His son Tony and Tony’s wife Ileana gave him two grandchildren: Sal and Michael. Salvatore’s daughter Cathy resides in New Britain’s Hospital for Special Care, and she was the light in his long life. Salvatore is also succeeded by his great grandchildren, and his nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 13th at 11:00 AM St. Ann Church in New Britain.  Entombment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
