Salvatore Sam D'Amore, 90, of New Britain, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family at New Britain General Hospital on Saturday, May 24, 2003. He was predeceased by his wife, Ann Margaret Takacs D'Amore and a son George D'Amore. Born on September 7, 1912 on the Island of Sicily, Province of Saracusa & Village of Floridia, Italy, he resided in New Britain for 82 years. Sam was proprietor of Sam's Poultry Market on the corner of Winter St. and Hartford Ave. He retired from Fafnir Bearing Newington Plant at age 62. He enjoyed traveling and spending his winters in Las Vegas, Port Richey, FL & San Diego, CA. Sam will be remembered in the hearts of his five children; Sally Anderson & her husband Bert, Mary Ann Quinn Tombari & her husband Walter, Bernadette D'Amore & her fiance Jack Baker, Jr., all of New Britain, James D'Amore of Manchester & Charles Donald D'Amore of Newington. Sam's greatest joy was spending holidays, parties and cookouts with his 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 28th at 8:30 am at the Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am at St. Ann's Church on North St., New Britain. Burial will be at St. Mary's cemetery on Stanley St., New Britain. Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 27th from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
