OBITUARY: Ruth Olander Olson Ruth Olander Olson, 91, of Cromwell, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, June 16, 2002. She was the widow of Sven H. Olson. Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Arvid and Alma Anderson Olander. She was a former New Britain and Plainville resident before moving to Cromwell. Ruth worked as a cook for Governor Trumbull and was a life-long member of Bethany Covenant Church, Berlin. Surviving are her brother, Eric Olander of Cromwell, two sisters-in-law Evelyn and Erma Olander; her daughters-in-law and sons-in-law, Deborah and Howard Schmelder of Bristol and David and Beverly Olson of Freedom, ME; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Paul, Philip, David, and Carl Olander, and three sisters Esther Daniels, Phoebe Carlson, and Carrie Olander. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel at Pilgrim Manor, 52 Missionary Rd., Cromwell. Burial will be held privately in the family plot at South Burying Grounds, Kensington. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund at Bethany Covenant Church, 785 Mill St., Berlin, CT 06037. Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
