It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of Ronald John Procko, aged 67, of New Britain, Connecticut, who left us on November 14, 2024. Ron was taken from us far too soon, and his death has left an unfillable void in the lives of all who knew him.
Born on October 20, 1957, Ron was a devoted father who cherished time spent with family. He loved his kids and grandkids fiercely and always made sure to tell anyone who would listen how proud he was of them. He had a brilliant mind and great sense of humor. Ron was known for his contagious and boisterous laugh. If he was laughing about something, so was everyone else in the room. He was an avid dog lover and loved his dog Buddy very much. He enjoyed fantasy football, UCONN basketball, politics, collecting hats, cards, and political pins, and spending summers at the beach in Rhode Island. He will be most remembered for his huge heart, silly sense of humor, and great advice.
Ron is survived by his son, Nicholas Procko and his wife Keri and their children Carmela and Sebastian of Old Lyme, Connecticut, his daughter Christina Brice and her husband Spencer and their children Jackson and Cameron of Wesley Chapel, Florida, his sister Beverly Melenski and her husband David of Bristol, Connecticut, his girlfriend Leslie Raymond, of New Britain, Connecticut and dear his friend and neighbor, Osvaldo Cruz of New Britain, Connecticut. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Onelia and Nicholas Procko, and brother Thomas Procko.
Though the circumstances of Ron’s death are untimely and tragic, we remember him not by the way he left this world, but by the way he lived in it. Ron’s life was filled with a myriad of accomplishments and edifying moments. He graduated Summa Cum Lade from UCONN with a B.S. in Physical Therapy at the top of his class. He also received a M.S. in Health Services from Quinnipiac. He worked for many years as a physical therapist helping the elderly and mentally challenged. In his younger years, Ron volunteered his time in the athletic departments of Newington and New Britain Public Schools as a team physical therapist. He was heavily involved in both his children’s soccer teams and spent many years as a soccer coach. Most recently, Ron was an addiction counselor at Gilead Services and touched the lives of many of his clients and patients.
Although our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that Ron’s spirit will live on through the memories we shared and the love he gave so freely. Rest in peace, Ron. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
