Robert P. Dabrowski passed away in his home on July 24, 2016, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters. He was born February 24, 1943 to the late Eugene C. Dabrowski and Mary (Szczur) Dabrowski whose guidance and generosity has made us the family we are today.
He completed his military obligation by joining the Army Reserve and became an instructor with the NCO Academy of the 76th Division (Tng) located in West Hartford, CT. He was past president of the Berlin Jaycees and the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and was a 3rd degree member of Council 3675 and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Assembly 1508 Kensington, CT.
He especially enjoyed spending time at West Hill Lake in New Hartford, CT with his family. He was a member of LAPOA (Laurel Acres Property Owners Association) where he served on the Board of Directors for many years and was in charge of the sailboat dock with his wife, Joyce, for more than 30 years.
He was an Insurance Agent for more than 45 years before retiring from the John M. Glover Agency located in Berlin, CT. He always had PMA (positive mental attitude) in all his endeavors.
He was a proud member of the Berlin Lions where he served as Secretary for 6 years. He had perfect attendance for 40 years and received the Knight of the Blind, Ambassador of Sight and the Melvin Jones Fellow Awards. He was a member of the board of directors of the Berlin Lions Club and the Berlin Fair for many years and was superintendent of tickets at the Berlin Fair for more than 35 years.
He was Cabinet Secretary for District 23 B of Lions Clubs International and received a letter of appreciation from the International President.
He loved auto racing and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and UCONN basketball, especially the women’s team.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce Whitney Dabrowski, who in addition to being his best friend was the strong woman that helped Robert bring up all his girls to be assets and not dependent in all that they did. He is survived by the best daughters a dad could ever have: Donna Cully and her husband Shawn, of Bristol, CT; Debra Rooney and her husband Kevin of Ferrisburg, VT; Christine Hajzak and her husband Greg, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Laureen Swets and her husband Steven of Plainville, CT. He also leaves behind his dear grandchildren: Brianna and Shannon Rose Cully; Megan, Emily and Seamus Rooney; Caroline Hajzak and Sam Mobley; Kate Daisy and Ben Michael Swets. He is also survived by a special nephew, Jason Yarema, and his wife, Kim, of Williamsburg, VA, and their children, Olivia, Sydney and Chase.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 28, at 9 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Church in East Berlin. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain. Calling hours will be at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 27, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The Berlin Lions will conduct a memorial service at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Berlin Lions Charities, P.O. Box 23, Kensington, CT 06037.
