Robert E. Clark

Robert E. Clark, (85), of Kensington, son of the late John V. Clark Sr. and Helen (Krasenics) Clark of Meriden passed away Friday, May 12, 2017.  He worked for Southern New England Telephone (SNET) for 38 years in various locations in the State, retiring in 1991.  Prior to his retirement he was teaching technical communications theory and applications at the SNET Hamden training center.

Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for 4 years during the Korean War receiving an honorable discharge in 1955 as an Electrician’s Mate First Class. He served aboard the USS Escape (ARS-6) and the USS Alcor (AK-259) spending many days at sea performing duties for the auxiliary Navy.

Robert contributed 31 years of public service to the Town of Berlin after moving to Kensington in 1963, serving on the Board of Assessors for 6 years, Zoning Board (ZBA) for 10 years (chairman for 6 years), Inland Wetlands Commission for 3 years, and elected to 4 terms (12 years) to the Berlin Police Commission, before resigning in 2007.

He spent many years as a member of the Berlin Republican Town Committee, and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Robert had many hobbies but the one that he enjoyed most was his interest in vintage cars, rebuilding and restoring his 1955 Packard Clipper.

Robert asks family and friends to remember him as a kind and generous good citizen who loved his family and his country. He was truly a ‘doer’ and a ‘giver’.

Robert leaves behind his wife Lorraine (Aiudi) Clark, daughter and son–in-law Cathleen Clark and Ronald Yakimishan of Cromwell CT, two grandchildren Conrad and Valerie Yakimishan, two brothers John V. Clark Jr. of Plainville, Donald Clark of Falls Church, VA and numerous cousins in Connecticut.  Robert was predeceased by his sister Patricia (Clark) Wiech.
