Richard R. Vardanian Sr., of New Britain, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010. Richard was born April 3, 1921 in New Britain to Harry T. and Mary Badal Vardanian. He was a graduate of New Britain High School, class of 1939 and the Technical School 200 Hour Special Course. He entered the service from June 1942 to November 1945 and was stationed in Australia and the Philippines. While in the US Army Air Force, Richard was responsible for the tear down of engines. He was later employed as an auto mechanic with City Brake Service and Wellins Auto Parts. Richard owned and operated Dick's Garage from February 1946 through September, 2005. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 6 and Life member of Moose Lodge 183. He was the administrator of the lodge and had the Legionnaire Fellowship Degree. He leaves his wife Anna of 61 years, three sons, Richard Jr. and wife Chun Mei, Michael and wife Isabelle, Randall and wife Christine; two granddaughters, Trina and Carissa, five grandsons, Joseph, Xaden, Colby, Garin, and Madoc; a niece Harriet of Bristol; three nieces in California; and two nephews, James Joseph of New Britain and Aram H. Vardanian Jr. of Florida. He was predeceased by sisters Sadie and Florence and brothers John "Sam", Aram, and Norman. He also leaves behind his good friend James "Jimmie" and many others. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:00 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main St., New Britain. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
