Richard "Dick" James, widower of Ruth Blauvelt James, quietly passed away at his residence November 5, 2011. He was born in 1921, the son of Clayton and Anna James and is the brother of Alice Hurlburt and Mary Krenn. Richard was a proud US Coast Guard veteran of WWII and served the country on the USS Gulfport. He leaves three children, their spouses and their children and grandchildren: Ruth and Paul from Enfield, with their children Katie Carlton, Peter Helechu and Aubrey Krah; Richard and Julia from Northfield, their daughter Janet Landolf from Corning, NY; and Mary James and her children Susan Tubbs from Willington and James Wilson from New Britain. He also was a proud great-grandfather to Adrianna Tubbs, Jacob Carlton, Isabella Krah and Emily, Clayton and Erica Landolf. He was predeceased by his siblings, Verna, Carolyn and Clayton. Dick was a recreational resident at Lake Hayward, East Haddam and a lifelong resident of New Britain where he attended local schools and worked until retirement at The Stanley Works. He was a communicant of St. Maurice Church. His family would like to remember and thank the dedicated staff at Bellmarie who provided his home in recent years. Also they would like to thank VITAS Hospice personnel for their special care at the end of Dick's life and all the hands on care-givers from A&D Health Solutions. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Maurice Church. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 5-7 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home. The family requests no flowers and that Dick be remembered with memorial donations to the Salvation Army, 78 Franklin Sq., New Britain, CT 06051 or to organizations that provide for people who will be in need of food or shelter this winter.
