Richard L. Hegg, age 83, of Kensington, beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather died peacefully on September 9, 2011 at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Richard was born on August 19, 1928 in Jamestown, New York to Oscar and Ellen Hegg as the third of four children. He married his childhood sweetheart, Maryanne Johnson on May 7, 1949. He worked for Jamestown Lounge for a short period and then was employed by Marlin Rockwell Company initially in Jamestown and was then transferred to the Plainville, CT office. He worked for MRC for 19 years after which time he was employed by Carpenter Technology as a regional metallurgist covering New England and Canada. He retired from Carpenter Tech. in 1994 and was hired back as a consultant servicing Europe and the Middle East. He made many trips overseas as a consultant and for pleasure with his wife. Richard was a long time member of Bethany Covenant Church in Berlin, CT where he served in multiple leadership positions. He was a member of the Frederick Lodge # 14 AF & AM in Plainville. For many years he served on the Plainville YMCA Board and Community Chest. Dick was devoted to his family and many friends. He loved camping with his family at Pilgrim Pines in New Hampshire. In his later years he loved spending part of the winter in Florida with his wife. He lovingly cared for his wife, Maryanne through her illness. Following her death in 2008, he enjoyed going out to dinner at Sans-Souci and cooking meals for his friends, Bob Elliot and Merwin Anderson. The "Carpenter Guys" were especially dear to him and he looked forward to their gatherings. One could not ask for a better father, husband or friend. Dick was predeceased by his wife Maryanne and his brother, Stanley. He is survived by his four children: Dr. James Hegg and his wife Barbara of Kensington, CT, Kathy Salomone and her husband Dr. Donald Salomone of Southington, CT, Daniel Hegg of Kensington, CT and Myrtle Beach, SC and Christine Hegg of Kensington, CT. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kimberly Hegg, Brian Hegg, and Krista Bydlak and her husband Matthew, Nathan and Andrew Mildrum, Timothy and Peter Salomone and his great grandchildren Noah and Isla Bydlak. Dick is also survived by his sister Elverna Rickerson of Jamestown, NY and Robert Hegg of Denver, Co., relatives and friends in Jamestown, NY as well as here in CT and around the world. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Bethany Covenant Church, 785 Mill St., Berlin, CT. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 13th from 4-7 PM at the Erickson -Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main St., New Britain. A private scattering of his ashes will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Bethany Covenant Church Memorial Garden or to the charity of your choice.
