Raymond W. Peterson, 92, of Cromwell, a former Newington resident, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2012 at Middlesex Hospital. He was the husband of the late Beatrice (Nelson) Peterson. Born in New Britain, he was the son of the late William and Nanny (Haagblad) Peterson. Ray was a longtime Newington resident before moving to Cromwell in 1999. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. Ray was a self employed contractor and builder before retiring. He was a member of the Newington Volunteer Fire Department for 28 years, where he retired as the Assistant Chief. Ray was a devoted member of Bethany Covenant Church in Berlin, where he served as the sexton for 20 years. As a member of the Church, he served on the Board of Trustees and as the Church Treasurer. Surviving are four sons and their spouses, William and Jacquelyn Peterson of Poquonock, Kenneth and Deborah Peterson of Simsbury, Raymond and Lisa Peterson of Newtown, Mark and Ellen Peterson of Newington; six grandchildren and their spouses, Brett and Kari Peterson, Matthew and Alexandra Peterson, Zoe and Aaron Keathley, Nikki Peterson, Katie Peterson, and David Peterson; and three great-grandchildren, Tristan Keathley, Dylan Keathley, and Evan Peterson. The family would like to thank the staff at Pineview, Covenant Village of Crowmell, Middlesex Critical Care Unit, and Middlesex Hospice for their loving care. Funeral services, with military honors, will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM at Bethany Covenant Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain at the convenience of the family.
