Raymond Turner Jr, passed away on July 4, 2026 peacefully in his home surrounded by all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ray was a native of Dawson, GA and the son of the late Raymond Turner Sr. and Polly (Telfair) Turner. Raymond Turner Jr is survived by his three daughters Sherlinda “Linda” (of New Britain, CT), Victoria ”Vickie”(of Bristol, CT) , and Raynette “Nette” Turner (of New Britain, CT). He is predeceased by son Travis Kenard Turner. Ray had 11 grandchildren: Johnny “Blaze” Turner, Maxine Smith, Milton Mitchell, Myra Mitchell, Venisha Gray, Tyrus Gray, Jocelynn Gray, Justin Moffat, Jayden Moffat, Anasia Turner and Joey Turner. Ray also had 10 great grandchildren. Raymond is the eldest of his loving siblings which include Jessie Pearl Williams of Manchester, Lillie Williams of Bloomfield, Minnie Teal of East Hartford, brother Jimmy Turner of East Hartford and Irene Mourn of Georgia. Raymond is predeceased by his sister Ruby Williams. He had a host of nieces and nephews and also was predeceased by nephew Eddie Williams.
Ray was a long-time employee of Fafnir Bearing Company located in New Britain, CT and relocated to Newington, CT until they closed their doors in late 1990’s.
Ray enjoyed fishing, his scriptures, writing in his journal, personal grooming, cars, cooking, he was an avid worshipper of the lord, and loving his family. In his later years he enjoyed solitary as well. Ray loved deep southern blues, R&B and gospel-drenched soul music. He adored artists like Marvin Sease, Johnnie Taylor and Tyrone Davis.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 13, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Saint James Missionary Baptist Church, 45 Daly Avenue, New Britain, CT 06051 followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in New Britain.
Special honorary thank you to his eldest daughter: Sherlinda Turner who shared her home and cared daily for her father the last 6 years. He expressed his gratitude and was ever so grateful for her compassion and grace.
He will be remembered for his loving heart, his unwavering faith in the Lord, and his deep devotion to his family.
