Raymond Mattson, a long-time resident of Kensington, died Saturday, March 22, 2003 at the age of 96. He was predeceased by his wife, Agnes Johnson Mattson to whom he was married for 56 years. Ray was born in New Britain, son of the late John and Anna Hendrickson Mattson. A toolmaker by trade, Ray worked for many years at the American Paper Goods Company in Kensington and retired from Raymond Engineering in Middlefield. He was a avid tennis player and golfer, and enjoyed playing his harmonica. A jack of all trades, he attributed his long life to his interests in maintaining his home, car and yard. He is survived by his four children, a son Bill of Petaluma, CA., three daughters, Barbara Westman and husband George of Middletown, Arlene Basarab and special friend Joseph Johnson of Southington, and Donna Fuller and husband Rick of Reno, NV; a brother Verner of New London; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother John and sister Estrid Stansfield. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main St., New Britain. Burial will be in Maple Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday morning from 10:30 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial donations to the Kensington United Methodist Church, 103 Hotchkiss St., Kensington, or to a charity of their choice.
