Raymond “Ray Ray” Conaway, 48, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 22nd, 2024. Raymond was born on August 6th, 1975 in New Haven, Connecticut to the late Eunice Conaway and the late Raymond Thomas. He is survived by three daughters, Lexus Conaway, Alaya Conaway and Alivia Conaway; a son, Raymond Conaway Jr.; his grandson, Leo Kaminski; his partner of 23 years, Kristen Williams; and his brother, Paul Conaway, along with his sister-in law Charlotte Conaway. Raymond is also survived by his uncles, Marvin Conaway and Larry Conaway; his aunts Melody Cooper and Annette Conaway and his nephews, Devon Alston and Andrew Drake. He was predeceased by his grandmother, Lillian Conaway, who raised him and whom he loved dearly.
Raymond was raised in New Britain and grew up in the Pinnacle Heights Housing Project aka P.H.P. While residing there, he created many memories and lifelong friendships. Although he was small in stature at the time, he was a star athlete, playing for the New Britain Police Athletic League and Spottswood AME Zion Church League. He exceled in every sport he played, including football, basketball and baseball. Raymond was also a very talented barber, who worked independently, as well as at various barbershops throughout the Greater Hartford area.
Raymond was loved and respected by so many people, everyone knew him or knew of him. He was a legend in New Britain. Raymond was a natural born leader, and was genuine and loyal to those he cared about. You were automatically drawn to him because of his magnetic and charming personality. He was confident, determined and fearless, but he was also charismatic and funny. And we can never forget his voice; it was gruff, loud and distinct.
As a father, Raymond loved his children with all his heart and was fiercely protective of them. He was a doting, hands-on dad and an excellent caregiver. He loved cooking for his family and always ensured things were organized at home. He was very proud of his children and looked forward to witnessing their success in the future.
Raymond’s homegoing memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 4th, 2024 from 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm at the Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, located at 411 South Main Street, New Britain, CT.
