Raoul D. Guevin, 88, of Kensington, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Farmington Care. Born in Blackstone, MA, he was the son of the late John and Malvina Guevin. During his younger years, Raoul helped his mom run her store. Seven weeks after the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He met his future bride, Helen Lamond in 1957 in West Hartford at Pratt & Whitney. They were married February 26, 1959 and moved to Kensington in 1961. He retired from Stop & Shop in 1980 and enjoyed spending time in the Berkshires at Walker Island Campgrounds, where he loved playing horseshoes until his health no longer allowed him to go the distance. He was predeceased by his wife Helen on February 23, 1993. Raoul was a proud member of the Berlin VFW Post #10732, where he enjoyed a good game of setback. He is survived by eight nieces and nephews, and by his close friend and caregiver, Patricia Buckberrough and her husband Paul of Kensington. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Anita, Bertha and Violet, and by two brothers, Dennis and John. His family and friends would like to thank his wonderful caregivers and staff at Farmington Care, who truly loved and cared for Raoul like family. A graveside service will be held on Saturday April 2nd at 11:00 AM at Maple Cemetery in Berlin. There are no calling hours. Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, New Britain, is in charge of arrangements.
