Pierina Barberina Maria Dwornik

Pierina Barberina Maria Guarangna Dwornik, 78, of New Britain, died peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006 after a short illness at New Britain General Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in Italy, on January 10, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Mario and Zaira Loro Guaragna. Pierina came to the United States from Argentina after leaving Italy during World War II and was a New Britain resident for the past 49 years. She was formerly employed at Emhart, retiring after 34 years in 1992. She was a member of St. Ann's Church. Known as "Mom" to several friends and neighbors, she loved to cook big dinners for everyone. A big fan of UCONN Basketball, she was known to yell and scream at the TV during playoff season. Surviving are a son, Michael Dwornik of MA; five daughters, Elsa Znajda of MN, Claudia Bosley of PA, Diana Weston of New Britain, Gafbriella Morin of MN, and Adriana Manning and her husband Robert of New Britain; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. She has three brothers in Argentina and numerous nieces and nephews in both Italy and Agentina. Widowed in 1997 by her husband Peter Dwornik, she was also deceased by htwo daughters Maria and Ida Znajda. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 8:30 Am at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 Am at St. Ann's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday evening from 5-8 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home.
