Philip Henry Klatt died peacefully at his home on Tuesday September 16, 2014, surrounded by his two daughters, his son-in-law and his caregiver. His love for his family, humor, kindness and gentle spirit will be greatly missed. Philip was born January 28, 1921, the only child of Nella and Frank Klatt of Plainville, CT. He attended Plainville high school where he was active in track and football. In 1939, he ran the quarter mile segment of the medley relay in 51 seconds, setting a state record. In 1939, he went to work for Trumbull Electric Co. He graduated in 1942 from Bliss Electrical School in Takoma Park, Maryland. He was employed by the Portland, Maine Ship Building Co. as a Marine Electrician 1st class. He later enlisted in the US Navy as an Electrician's Mate 3C. His ship, LST 528 participated in the WW II Normandy coast "D-Day" invasion at Gold beach on June 6, 1944. He was honorably discharged in 1946. When the war ended, he went to work for Western Electric Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1981. He married Margaret Prior in 1947. The family lived in Unionville, CT, where Margaret died in 1992. In 1995, he married their best friend, Jeanne Olson Goff, who died in 2006. He leaves his two beloved daughters, Lynn Klatt and Phyllis Usher, his son-in-law, Mario Mauro (Lynn's husband), as well as many close friends and neighbors at Covenant Village in Cromwell, CT. Philip will also be missed by his good friend, Benny (Phyllis' rescue dog), who cheered Philip and greatly contributed to his love of life. Visitation on Sunday, Sept. 21 from 3 - 5pm at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home in New Britain, CT. Funeral Service on Monday 22nd from 11am to 12 noon at Bethany Covenant Church in Berlin, CT, followed by burial at St. Joseph's cemetery at 151 Farmington Ave., Plainville, CT. Reception from 1:30 - 3:00pm at Covenant Village - Hilltop Lounge.
