Peter Paul Melinoskas Sr, of Middletown, a former New Britain resident, died unexpectedly Friday evening, July 30, at Hartford Hospital as a result of a severe injury due to a fall. He was surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his beloved and cherished wife, Hilda May Melinoskas. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on September 2. He also leaves his beloved children, daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Louis Morris Bard of Bristol; daughter and son-in-law Linda and Larry Carlson of Newington; son and daughter-in-law Peter and Sue Melinoskas of Keller, TX. Also surviving are his much-loved grandsons and their spouses, Albert and Maria Wanat of South Windsor, Russell and Becky Bard of Newington; his adored great-grandchildren, Matthew, Amanda, Kristina Wanat, and Jacob Bard; a sister-in-law, Anna May of New Britain; six nephews and three nieces. He also leaves many friends at Luther Manor where he and Hilda resided. Peter was pre-deceased by two brothers and three sisters, John and Theodore Melinosky, Ann Carroll, Helen Stewart, and Natalie Tanguay He was born June 14, 1917 in New Britain, son of the late Theodore and Anna Yablonski Melinosky. He lived most of his life in New Britain, before moving to Middletown in 2000. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in New Britain and had been a member of the church choir for many years. He also was a former member of various Barbershop Quartet groups, as well as the Lithuanian Radio Chorus. He retired in 1982 from Guida's Dairy, Auto Body repair division. He was previously employed at Detroit Auto Body, as an Auto Body Collision repair expert. With his wife Hilda, he was the owner and operator of Pete and Hilda's Luncheonette in New Britain for 10 years. After retiring, Peter took up the hobby of designing and creating small woodcraft items, which he distributed to family and friends. He was an avid UCONN basketball fan, enjoyed fishing, traveling and always had a joke or story to relate. But the greatest joy of his life was his wife Hilda and his family. He lived his life loving, caring and sharing with all of us. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Calling hours are Tuesday from 6-8 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home.
