With deep love and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Peter Carl DeSeno, who passed away on Wednesday, April 29th, 2026 at the age of 88.
Born and raised in New Britain, Peter was a true product of his roots—proud of his Italian-American heritage and the tight-knit neighborhood that shaped him. Family wasn’t just important to him, it was everything. Surrounded by his brother, cousins, aunts, and uncles, he grew up in a world where doors were always open and people always showed up for one another. As a young man, he worked at a local grocery store and delivered groceries for Jack Carfi’s Market, becoming a familiar, trusted face to so many.
As a teenager, he formed lifelong friendships—bonds built on loyalty, laughter, and navigating life together. He had a bit of a “tough” reputation as part of the Lords, but anyone who really knew him knew the truth: he had a soft heart and would do anything for anyone. That instinct to help others never left him—it was simply who he was.
He proudly served in the National Guard and stepped up during the devastating Connecticut Flood of 1955, helping his community when they needed it most. That quiet strength—the kind that doesn’t ask for recognition—was something he carried throughout his life.
In 1964, he married the love of his life, Frances A. Anton. Together, they built a life rooted in love, partnership, and unwavering commitment. Through everything, they stood by each other.
Peter spent 38 years working for Tilcon Connecticut Concrete as a concrete mixer driver and union steward. He was respected not just for his work ethic, but for the way he looked out for others. He could fix just about anything, and if something was broken, you knew he’d find a way. He also had a creative side—painting cement trucks to honor retiring drivers and creating the unforgettable “Watch That Child” message seen on company trucks. It was such a simple phrase, but it said so much about who he was—always looking out, always caring.
He loved motorcycles—especially his Indian and Harley-Davidson bikes—and the freedom of the open road. Some of his happiest moments were long rides with friends, trips to Maine, and charity rides for children. He wasn’t just along for the ride—he rode with purpose.
He stayed connected to his community as a longtime member of the Elks Club of Southington. At home, he found joy in the simple things—cooking family favorites like Italian Easter pizza, working on projects, and taking pride in his yard. And if the New England Patriots were playing, you knew exactly where he’d be. Above all else, he was a family man. That was his greatest role, and the one he cared about most.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Frances; his children, Lisa DeSeno of Berlin, CT, Richard DeSeno and his wife Linda of Wethersfield, CT, and Christine DeSeno-Cleland of Berlin, CT; along with eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Mary Frances—a loss he carried quietly, but deeply, always.
Peter was also incredibly grateful for the people who showed up for him later in life—the kind neighbors in Newington who looked out for him and Frances, and the compassionate caregivers from Visiting Angels, who treated him with dignity and care.
If you knew Peter, you knew his wit, his warmth, and his way of making people feel taken care of. He didn’t need to say much—you just knew he was there for you. His greatest joy came from being with his family, especially his grandchildren, who meant everything to him.
His legacy isn’t just in what he did—it’s in how he lived. In the way he showed up, the way he helped others without hesitation, and the love he gave so freely. He will be missed more than words can say, and remembered in all the ways that matter most.
Services to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday May 7, 2026 from 9 AM to 10:30 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. Ann Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peter’s memory to the Alzheimer's Association or ALS Connecticut (alsunitedct.org)—causes that mattered deeply to him, as he would have done anything to help find a cure and spare others from suffering.
