Paul R. Bergstrom, 75, of Cromwell, CT, husband of Norma Janson Bergstrom, went home to be with the Lord on September 4, 2006. Born in White Plains, NY, he was the son of the late Carl and Hilma Pihl Bergstrom. Paul was a former resident of Newington, CT, Swanzey, NH and Keene, NH before moving to Cromwell in 2004. He did his undergraduate studies at Tufts University, three years of graduate studies at Brown University, Johns Hopkins University, and Chapman University in Orange, CA. Paul taught secondary math in California for six years before becoming a partner with his brother in the ownership of Commercial Foundry in New Britain. Paul also owned Commercial Associates, an auto sales company, and Mountain Stream Associates, a real estate development company, before retiring. Paul was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Navy as a Fire Control Technician 1st Class. He served aboard the USS Cotten that saw action in Korea. Paul loved the Lord and enjoyed his work at the Pilgrim Pines Conference Center in New Hampshire, where he served on the Board of Directors for over 20 years and where he was project manager for a number of projects including the camping area, sewer system, construction of two buildings, and Mayflower site development. He was a charter member of the Orange, California Covenant Church and the Monadnock Covenant Church in Keene, NH. He was an associate member of the Bethany Covenant Church in Berlin. Paul was active in Boy Scouts, having attained the rank of Eagle Scout and having served as a troop leader and Scout Master of two troops. He also served as Director of Security at four different CHIC Covenant High Congress camps. In addition to his wife Norma, he is survived by two sons, John Bergstrom and his wife Janet of Burlington, and Bruce Bergstrom and his wife Cathy of Burlington; a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Lorraine Bergstrom of Cromwell; six grandchildren, Emma, Bobbi, Samuel, Mackenzie, Joshua, and Jacob; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Monday, September 11, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Bethany Covenant Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Monadnock Covenant Church, 217 G Old Homestead Highway, East Swanzey, NH 03446, the Bethany Covenant Church, 785 Mill St., Berlin, CT 06037, or to Pilgrim Pines Conference Center, 220 West Shore Rd, Swanzey, NH 03446.
