Pasqualina "Lee" (DiSabato) Giattino, 99, cherished wife of the late Leo D. Giattino, of Newington, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.
Lee was born in Bagnoli Irpino, Province of Avellino, Italy on November 25, 1925. She was the daughter of master carpenter Vincenzo DiSabato and Theodosia (Patrone). She came to the United States at the age of nine. She attended the Bristol school system and studied hairdressing in New Britain. Lee loved to dance and met the love of her life Leo at Lake Compounce. On May 21, 1949 they started their 68 year long marriage. Lee was happiest when surrounded by her family. She loved to host pasta dinners on Sunday afternoons at their beach house in Old Lyme. She never knew how many people would be present but there was always enough pasta and meatballs! She especially loved playing in the backyard with her grandchildren and great grandchildren at her home in Newington. Lee was able to enjoy the winters at their second home in Naples, Florida with Leo for 37 years.
Lee is survived by and will be dearly missed by her daughters, Deborah Jaksina, Mary Ann Diorio and husband Joseph Diorio Jr.; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jaksina) Kumnick and husband Stephen Kumnick, Stephanie Jaksina, Jeffrey Jaksina and wife Sarah (Melley) Jaksina, Joseph L Diorio and wife Nicole (Bosco) Diorio, Nicholas Diorio and wife Talia (Graveline) Diorio; great grandchildren, Avery Kumnick, Alexandra Kumnick, Jacqueline Diorio, Joseph Diorio Jr., John Jaksina, Benjamin Jaksina, Korey Harrington, and Vincent Diorio; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sisters, Guiseppina Chieffo of Italy, and Mary D'Andrea of Bristol and four brothers, Guiseppe, Elvio, Tommaso and WWI veteran Vito (Duke) DiSabato of Bristol.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 11:30 AM at Church of the Holy Spirit, 183 Church St., Newington. Calling hours will be held Friday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
