Orlando J. Russo, 83, of New Britain, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at the Hospital of Central CT at New Britain General. He was the beloved husband of Angeline Spano Russo for 57 years. Born in New Britain, he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Angelina Zimmitti Russo. Orlando was a lifelong New Britain resident. He served in the Army Air Corps in WW II and flew 26 missions in a B-24 bomber. Orlando was very active in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as an adult leader, a member of the Order of the Arrow and a recipient of the Bronze Pelican Award. He worked as a Tool and Die Maker and Supervisor for Honeywell, retiring 18 years ago. Orlando belonged to the YMCA. He was a member of the Prime Y'ers, the New Britain Senior Center and St. Ann Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Carolyn Russo of Coopersburg, PA, Michael and Deborah Russo of Kensington, two grandchildren, Nicole and Dominic Russo of Coopersburg, PA, three sisters-in-law, Nancy Zoccoli, Catherine Spano and Flo Dezi, a brother-in-law, Richard Spano and his wife Lori, and many nieces and nephews. Orlando's three brothers, Sebastian, John and Rosario Russo, predeceased him. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 am at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am at St. Ann Church. Burial, with full Military Honors, will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the funeral home.
