Nunzio Trovato, 89, of New Britain, CT passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. Nunzio was born on March 31, 1935, in Carlentini, Sicily to the late Giovanni and Guiseppina (Gentile) Trovato. He was the beloved husband to Lucia (Scalora) for 64 years. He moved to the United States in 1960 where he met and married Lucia, his lifelong love, where they began raising their family. Nunzio was an active member and vice president of Generale Ameglio Society of New Britain, and a member of the Italian Independent Political Club of Berlin for many years. Nunzio was a highly regarded member of the community and a dear friend to many.
He enjoyed making wine, gardening, playing bocce ball, watching soccer, and playing checkers with his grandchildren. In his later years, he became a familiar figure seen taking long walks throughout his neighborhood.
Nunzio was a beloved husband, respected father, cherished grandfather and great grandfather. He leaves behind his wife Lucia and children; Josephine, John and wife Patricia, Sebastian and wife Cheryl, along with his grandchildren; Troy, Christina and Summer Trovato, Alexandra and husband Matthew Carrai, and his great grandchildren Brooks and August Carrai.
He leaves behind his brother Carmelo and wife Lucia Trovato, his sister Concetta and her late husband Antonino Marino, as well as his late sister Sebastiana and husband Sebastiano Caligiore and many nieces and nephews.
To celebrate Nunzio’s life, funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 9 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Ann Church of St. Joachim Parish, 101 North St., New Britain. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday, September 27, 2024 from 4-7 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Southington Bread For Life, 31 Vermont Ave, Southington, CT 06489 (southingtonbreadforlife.org).
