Nona (Belomyzy) Richards (70) passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at her home in Middletown, CT. Nona was born in New Britain, CT to Gustave and Anne (Bichun) Belomyzy, attending public elementary and middle schools before moving to Berlin and graduating from Berlin High School in 1972. She then attended Western CT State University, graduating in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN).
Nona worked at several skilled nursing homes displaying her special love and care for elderly patients filling their lives with joy, humor and a unique perspective of life in their golden years. In 1993, she became Director of IV Services at Sunscript/Mediscript Pharmacy creating infusion programs for long term care facilities. She helped to establish state-certified universal IV and Infusion programs providing antibiotic therapy, parenteral nutrition and pain management. She was appointed as the liaison for the State on behalf of 40 long term care facilities. She developed a program for Massachusetts compliance and regulations as well as an on-call program for both states.
In 2003, she was responsible for the entire IV education program for CT and MA, traveling to many facilities to teach IV protocols, audit facilities and research new IV products to stay current with industry standards.
She returned to her first love in long term skilled facilities attending to a senior citizen population. From 2017 until present she was the Nursing Supervisor for nights and weekends, including admissions, patient care and IV programs at several local nursing facilities.
Nona was a member of the Orthodox Church and sang in many church choirs and was known throughout the Diocese for her graceful but strong soprano voice. This love of music began as a youngster in the church choir and continued through her participation in many school productions.
Nona is survived by her daughter Sarah (Timothy) Clark of Wethersfield and grandchildren Julianne, Rosemary, Everett and Warren; and daughter Alexandra (Brent) Read and grandchildren Harper, Logan and Daphne of Idaho; brother Michael & Marjane Belomyzy of Wyoming; niece Jane (Jason) Beech of Wyoming; and sister Annette & Paul Salina of Kensington; niece Jennifer (Richard) Wykes of Denver and nephew Adam (Danielle) Salina of Kensington and several great nieces and nephews. She also leaves special friends V. Rev Steven and Cindy Voytovitch of Guilford.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospital of Central CT Auxiliary Scholarship Fund at New Briain General, 100 Grand Street, New Britain, CT 06050. The Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, New Britain has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
