Nilda Cruz

Nilda Cruz, 56, of New Britain, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2014 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a New Britain resident for the past 14 years. Nilda was employed at Prudence Crandall. Nilda Cruz touched many lives in the community through her work as a shelter Manager for Women and children. Nilda Cruz was a beloved Mother, daughter and Sister and she will be greatly missed and mourned as a great Pillar in her family. Surviving are four children, Joann Latorre, Alicia Dawkins, Milagros Lopez, and Esther Marie Lopez; her mother, Ramona (Vargas) Cruz; a brother, Getulio Cruz Jr.; a sister, Esther Cruz; and two grandchildren, Liany Izquierdo and Alyana Izquierdo. Nilda was predeceased by her father, Getulio Cruz Sr. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Dec. 28, at 3:30 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain. Burial will be in Pflugerville, Texas. Calling hours are Sunday from 1-5 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home.
