Nicholas Joseph Viccaro, Sr., 80, of Kensington, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 10, 2002. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy Willis Viccaro for 50 years. Born in Hartford, he lived in New Britain for 15 years then moved to Kensington, living there for over 30 years. Nick was stationed at West Point during World War II. He was a concrete mason by trade for over 40 years and had a hand in the building of the Hartford skyline and many other communities. He belonged to Union Local 1 in Hartford. Nick was a volunteer at the Friendship Center in New Britain and used his truck to collect donated foods from area grocery stores to feed the homeless. Nick was an avid sportsman, enjoying boxing while in the army. He also acquired many trophies while participating in the sport of golf. He enjoyed football, fishing, and horseracing. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Debra Viccaro Taylor of Texas, Cheryl Viccaro Cuddy of New Britain, Sandra Viccaro Scully and her husband, Thomas, of Meriden, Susan Viccaro Powers and her husband, Michael, of Kensington, and one son, Nicholas J. Viccaro, Jr. and his wife, Denise, of East Hampton. He also leaves a grandson, Eric Viccaro of Iowa whom he raised from childhood. Nick is survived by two sisters, Jenny Forbes and Sadie DePascale and one brother, James Viccaro. He is also survived by 15 additional grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Nick will be missed by his family and many friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 15, 2002 at 9:00 am at Erickson- Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St. New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Paul's Church, Kensington. Burial, with Military Honors, will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
