Nelly Santiago-Saavedra, 51, of New Britain was tragically taken from this life on Friday 08/22/08 in Kissimmee Florida Hospital. Nelly was born on 09/22/56 in San German, P.R. She resided in New Britain Conn. for most of her life. She graduated from NBHS in 1974 and went on to college. She worked as a Claims Representative for the Social Security Administration for 28 years. She leaves a legacy of love for her daughter Erica M. Santiago and granddaughter to be. Nelly is one of ten children born to the late Jose A. Santiago of New Britain. She leaves behind her beloved mother Matea Santiago Saavedra, her six brothers and two sisters and nieces and nephews. Jose Santiago & wife Sonja and children of Germany, Jaime Santiago & wife Lydia and children, Adam Santiago and children, Luis A. Santiago & wife Anna and children, Carmen Santiago & children, Albert Santiago & wife Elizabeth and children, Alex Santiago, Amalya Santiago-Leonard & husband Michael and children all of New Britain, Gilbert Santiago & wife Gloria and children of E. Hartford. She also leaves her Godmothers, Ramonita Saavedra, Estrella Santana & Godfather Jesus Santiago of Hartford whom she loved so deeply. She also leaves behind her aunt Carmen Elsie Arroyo-Saavedra and children. Her cousin Monica Santiago and family of PR and CA. Great-great aunt Ramonita Vasquez and family of Stratford CT. Nelly leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins and great nieces-nephews and many close friends. She also leaves her pet cat Nico and dog Nia whom she loved very much. She was also predeceased by her grandmothers, Eloisa Vasquez, Antonia Saavedra-Arroyo and grandfathers Damaso Santiago, Joaquin Saavedra and a sister Maria Del-Carmen Santiago of PR. Nelly will forever be loved and remembered by her family and friends for all her kindheartedness and passion for life. Nelly enjoyed living life to the fullest, loved the beaches, outdoors and music. She was an amazing person who will be missed by everyone. Calling hours are on Tuesday from 5:00-8:00pm at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home 411 S. Main Street, New Britain, CT. Church Services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00am at St. Mary Church on Main Street. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
