Myrtle (Kraus) "Buzz" Cahill, 88, of Suffield, a former New Britain and Newington resident, passed away on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013. She was the widow of Capt. Vincent E. Cahill who died in 2007. Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late John and Olga (Schultz) Kraus. She was a former New Britain and Newington resident before moving to Suffield in 1995. Myrtle was a Registered Nurse and served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II. She met her husband while serving at Schofield Barracks, in Hawaii. Together, they enjoyed the military life from 1948 to 1967, raising their family and residing at various military posts around the United States and in Germany. She was also employed at BelAir Manor in Newington, before retiring. In retirement, she and her husband loved to travel throughout the United States in their RV and also enjoyed trips to Europe and Korea. Myrtle enjoyed her last years at Suffield by the River, an assisted living facility. She was a charter member of Women in Military Service Memorial in Washington D.C. and was a member of the West Suffield Congregational Church. Surviving are a son, Michael Cahill and his wife Sandra of Suffield; a grandson, Daniel Cahill of Enfield; a brother, John Kraus of New Britain, Florida, and Rhode Island; her special caregivers, Maryanne Trombley and Nancelyn Bakston; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Kevin Cahill and Patrick Cahill. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main St. , New Britain. Burial, with military honors, will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 5-7 PM.
