Mustafa A (Alan) Chavis 68 of Unionville, CT, loving husband of Patricia Almeida Chavis, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday Feb 12. Born in Bristol CT, he was the son of the late Shirley Ruffin White and of the late Grady H Stewart. He was a United States Marine Corp veteran having served in Vietnam. He was a member of the Islamic Center of Greater Hartford in Berlin CT. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he was a member of the NALC. He received a Master of Science Degree in International Studies from CCSU in 2012 and completed his first book in 2013. He also played the guitar with the band Nzingas. Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Yvonne Pendleton, Alan Chavis, Cheryl Chavis, Casey Mullen, Monique Wallace, Aaron Chavis and Sarah Chavis. He is also survived by his brothers Philip Stewart, Maxwell Stewart, Charles Stewart, Gregory Stewart, and Conrad Glass; his sisters Patricia Mapin, Gratia Stewart and Elizabeth Stewart; his very special cousins Brandi Andrews, William Andrews the late Charlene Andrews and the late Scott Andrews. He also leaves several grandchildren, great grandchildren, many family members, band members and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Queen Ann Nzinga Center 19 Chestnut St New Britain, CT 06051. A memorial service will be held on Mar 6 from 5-7 at the Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main St New Britain, CT 06051
