Michael A. "Cookie" Firetto, 77, of Palm Harbor, FL, died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 13, 2006 at home. Born in New Britain, he was the son of the late Angelo and Mary DeSena Firetto. Michael was a long-time New Britain resident before retiring to Palm Harbor, Florida in 1989. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Michael was well known as a floral designer in New Britain for over 38 years, first at Marzi Florist and later as owner of Firetto Florist. Nothing gave him more joy than to be behind his workbench designing. He was an active member of the Lansbrook Golf Club and former member of St. Ann's Church, the Marconi Society, and the New Britain Florist Association. He loved the game of golf, dancing, sunsets on Clearwater Beach and a good laugh with his family and friends Surviving are his wife, Margaret Allen Firetto; his loving daughters, Donna Peterson and her husband John of Kensington, Lynn Bosco and her husband Ron of Berlin, and Michele Holder and her husband Brian of Colchester; a brother, Joseph Firetto of New Britain; a sister, Rosemary Fradiani of Rocky Hill; four grandchildren, Michael Peterson and his wife Christine, Kristina Schumann and her husband Rob, Thomas Bosco and Stephen Bosco; and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his first wife, Lorraine "Dede" Marzi Firetto, his second wife, Frances Moran Firetto, and by two brothers, Paul Firetto and Santo Firetto. Michael was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be forever missed. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St., New Britain followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Paul's Church in Berlin, CT. Burial, with military honors, will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 5-8 PM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home.
