Maurice Edward Ames

Maurice Edward Ames, 79, of New Britain, widower of Ann Poskus Ames, died peacefully on Jan. 17, 2007 at home. Born in Rockland, ME, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Henrietta Mason Ames. He was a New Britain resident since 1948 and was a self employed painter and paperhanger, before retiring. Maurice was a US Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the VFW Post #511 and the D.A.V. Unknown Soldier Chapter #12 and served as the Past State Commander of the Disabled American Veterans as well as on the local Veterans Commission. Surviving are two children and their spouses, Nancy and Ronald Nelson of New Britain, Robert and Susan Ames, also of New Britain; four grandchildren, Eric and Heidi Nelson, Lauren and Benjamin Ames; two great-grandchildren, Jimmy and Justin Nelson; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, George, Raymond, and Wilson Ames. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 S. Main St. Burial, with military honors, will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 1- 4 PM at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the D.A.V., P.O.
