Mattie Wooten, 83, of New Britain, went home to be with her Lord on Friday Morning, Sept 5, 2014 at the Hospital of Central CT in New Britain. Born in Boxley, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Corneilius (Cross) Wooten. Mattie was a New Britain resident for more than 60 years and was formerly employed as a machinist at Emhart and Black & Decker before retiring. She was a faithful member of New Mount Olive Church of God in Christ. Surviving are her beloved son, Freddie Watson of New Britain; a brother, Roscoe Wooten of New Britain; a sister, Bertha Mack of New Britain; and two grandchildren, Justin Mitchner and Courtney Mitchner, both of Patterson, NJ. In addition to her parents, Mattie was predeceased by a daughter, Helen Bird Mitchner, two brothers, Jeff Wooten and Douglas Wooten; and two sisters, Lola Simmons and Vernele Tomberline. A Home Going Celebration will be held on Wednesday from 11 Am to 12 noon at the New Mount Olive Church of God in Christ, Tremont St., New Britain. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. A calling hour will be held Wednesday morning from 10 AM to 11 AM at church. Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
